The Ministry of Transport and Public Works invites applications from suitably qualified Malawian nationals for the following vacant positions:

Non-Established (NE)

Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervise security staff.

• Provide security at Nsanje Railway Station and associated railway facilities.

• Protect Government property, railway infrastructure, equipment and other assets against theft, vandalism and unauthorised access.

• Control and monitor access to restricted areas.

• Conduct routine patrols of the railway station and surrounding premises.

• Report security incidents, breaches and suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.

• Maintain security occurrence books and other relevant records.

• Assist in responding to emergencies and security threats.

• Liaise with the Malawi Police Service and other security agencies where necessary.

• Perform any other duties as may reasonably be assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

• Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent qualification.

• Experience serving in Government security organisations, including the Malawi Police Service, Malawi Prisons Service or other recognised Government security institutions.

• A minimum of 3 years' practical experience in security work is preferred.

• Clean and verifiable service record.

• Physically and mentally fit to perform security duties.

• Knowledge of security procedures, access control, surveillance and incident reporting.

• Good communication, interpersonal and observation skills.

• Must be disciplined, trustworthy and able to work with minimum supervision.

• Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays.

1. SECURITY GUARD – GRADE P

Non-Established (NE)

Job Purpose

To provide effective security and protection of railway lines, stations, railway infrastructure, equipment, stores, buildings and other Government property against theft, vandalism, trespassing and other unlawful activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Safeguard Government vehicles, equipment, tools, stores, materials and other property.

• Prevent and report theft, vandalism, trespassing and illegal removal of railway materials.

• Maintain vigilance and promptly report suspicious persons, activities or incidents.

• Record and report security incidents, breaches, accidents and damage to infrastructure.

• Maintain occurrence books, patrol records and other relevant security records.

• Comply with Government security procedures and lawful instructions from supervisors.

Qualifications and Experience

• Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) or equivalent qualification.

• Previous experience in security work is an added advantage, particularly experience with Government security organisations, Malawi Police Service, Malawi Prisons Service, Malawi Defence Force or railway operations.

• Must be physically fit, disciplined, vigilant and capable of working under pressure.

• Willingness to work night shifts, weekends and public holidays.

• Willingness to work at remote railway stations and along railway lines.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Successful candidates will be appointed in accordance with the Government of Malawi Public Service Regulations.

Deployment may be to railway stations, railway lines and other locations where railway infrastructure is situated.
