Overview The Center for African Studies, with support from the Mastercard Foundation, invites Africa-based researchers to apply for two Visiting Fellowships at UC Berkeley. The fellowship provides an opportunity to pursue independent research, complete a major article or book, and foster academic ties with UC Berkeley faculty.

Eligibility

• Reside in an African country and affiliated with an African institution.
• PhD received on or before January 2022.
• Demonstrated potential to contribute to their field of study.
• Preference given to projects focusing on youth, labor, livelihoods, mobility, displacement, technology, democracy, and futures.

Fellowship Benefits

• Return airfare to Berkeley, California.
• Accommodation at UC Berkeley’s International House.
• Subsistence allowance for living costs.
• Desk space and access to computer at the Center for African Studies.
