About the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services operates under the Ministry of Homeland Security. It is mandated to manage migration, border control, citizenship, and issuance of travel documents in accordance with Malawian law and international standards.
JOB OVERVIEW The Deck Officer will be responsible for safely operating and navigating patrol vessels during immigration enforcement and border control operations on Malawi’s waterways.
The Role • Operate and navigate patrol vessels safely • Ensure safety of crew and passengers at all times • Support marine immigration patrol operations • Maintain vessel readiness and basic operational standards
Key Responsibilities • Safely operate and navigate patrol vessels in assigned areas • Ensure safety of crew members at all times • Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance of the vessel • Monitor weather conditions and make informed operational decisions • Maintain accurate records of vessel movements, fuel usage, and patrol activities • Coordinate with relevant authorities during patrol missions • Ensure all safety equipment is functional and properly used • Supervise onboard crew and maintain discipline and teamwork • Respond effectively to emergencies and distress situations
Qualifications and Experience • Malawi Marine Training College Class 4 Certificate • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) • Advanced Diploma in Nautical Studies or Class 4 competency certificate (added advantage) • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in marine vessel operation • Knowledge of maritime safety and navigation regulations • Age: 35–45 years
