TOWN PLANNING OFFICER

OVERVIEW
The Local Government Service Commission is inviting applications from suitable qualified Malawians to fill the following vacant positions existing at BLANTYRE CITY COUNCIL

POST: Town Planning Officer
Grade: M6/I
SALARY: In line with Terms and Conditions of Service for Blantyre City Council

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must be in possession of Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Land Management or Geography. They must demonstrate knowledge of spatial planning, land use policies, and development control, alongside experience in preparing strategic and detailed location plans, processing development applications, and supporting planning committees. Strong communication, report-writing, and stakeholder engagement skills are essential.

DUTIES

Assists in preparing the agenda for Technical Officers Committee Meetings and Town Planning Committee meetings and representing the Council at these meetings.
Assists in Forward Planning as assigned from time to time
Develops spatial and strategic plans: e.g., production of Detailed Location Plan
Scrutinizes and process development applications
Assists in investigating complaints and breaches of planning conditions and taking legal action against those breaches
Provides technical support to prospective developers
