African Journalists Invited to Apply for Fully Funded Investigative Journalism Lab in Mombasa

Africa Uncensored, in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) Regional Media Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa, is inviting applications for the Africa Investigative Journalism Lab, an intensive residential training programme designed for emerging African investigative journalists committed to public interest reporting.

Eligibility: Mid-Career & Senior Journalists Across Africa
The programme provides participants with practical, hands-on investigative journalism training delivered by experienced investigative reporters, editors and digital forensics experts.

Participants will strengthen real-world investigations while gaining advanced skills in data journalism, source protection, digital verification, legal frameworks and investigative reporting techniques.

The training will take place in Mombasa, Kenya, from 4–8 November 2026.

Training Objectives
Successful participants will:
Strengthen their ability to research, plan and execute high-impact investigative stories.
Develop practical skills in data journalism, Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) and digital verification.
Learn legal, ethical and safety considerations for investigative reporting.
Build a regional network of investigative journalists committed to accountability journalism.
Develop at least one publishable investigative story during the programme.

Who Should Apply?
Applications are encouraged from:
Mid-career and senior journalists with at least three years of active reporting experience.
Journalists with experience or demonstrated interest in investigative and accountability reporting.
Staff reporters, editors, freelancers and multimedia journalists.
Journalists working across print, broadcast and digital media.
Applicants from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Somalia and other African countries.
Women journalists are strongly encouraged to apply.

Editorial guidance and story development support.
Advanced investigative journalism tools and training materials.
Full residential accommodation throughout the programme.
Return travel support for participants travelling from outside Mombasa.

Demonstrated journalism experience and published work.
Quality and feasibility of the proposed investigative story.
Commitment to accountability journalism.
Motivation for participating in the programme.
Geographic and gender diversity.

Investigative story pitch (300–500 words) describing:
