Communications Manager at Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) – Remote, Global Role
SVRI is seeking a Communications Manager to strengthen and implement its communications strategy, support research dissemination and knowledge exchange, and increase the visibility and influence of its work.

The Communications Manager will play a central role in communicating SVRI’s research, programmes, partnerships and impact across its four pillars of work.

About the Role
The successful candidate will develop creative and innovative approaches to showcase SVRI’s work, translate research evidence into accessible messaging, and support the Global Advocacy Director in building influence and strengthening the field.

The role requires strong communications expertise combined with an understanding of research on violence against women and violence against children.

Key Responsibilities
Communications and Research Dissemination
The Communications Manager will:

Lead communications activities for SVRI projects, including research dissemination, capacity-building initiatives, courses, online events and grant partner achievements.
Develop creative approaches to communicating research findings, lessons learned and programme outcomes.
Translate scientific and peer-reviewed research into accessible messages for different audiences and communication channels.

Support knowledge exchange across SVRI’s networks and platforms.
Develop and package multimedia materials across SVRI’s four pillars of work.
Social Media Management
The successful candidate will:

Manage SVRI’s social media channels and maintain a consistent communications calendar.
Craft engaging social media posts, captions and campaign content.

Design social media tiles and other visual materials.
Monitor audience engagement and evaluate social media performance.
Use insights and analytics to continuously improve communications activities.

Website and Digital Communications
Responsibilities will include:

Managing, updating and improving the SVRI website.
Uploading and editing website content.
Supporting website design, navigation and accessibility.
Applying search engine optimisation (SEO) principles.
Maintaining consistent branding and presentation across digital platforms.

Newsletter and Email Marketing
The Communications Manager will:
Help create, edit and review the weekly SVRI Update newsletter.
Develop and implement email marketing strategies.
Identify opportunities to improve newsletter engagement and reach.
Ensure communications are clear, accessible and aligned with SVRI’s wider strategy.
Multimedia and Brand Management
The role will involve:
Developing multimedia materials, including reports, blogs, podcasts, reels, images and videos.
Editing and reviewing communications materials before publication.
Maintaining visual, branding and formatting consistency across SVRI outputs.
Supporting campaign development and communications around events, partnerships and research initiatives.

Communications Strategy and Monitoring
The successful candidate will:

Develop and advise on communications strategies for specific projects.
Identify appropriate audiences, channels and dissemination methods.

Establish key messages and approaches for print, web, social media and other platforms.
Develop a monitoring and evaluation plan for communications channels.
Link communications monitoring to SVRI’s overall monitoring, evaluation and learning system.
Undertake other duties required to support successful delivery of SVRI’s strategic plan.

Salary and Benefits
The annual salary range is US$35,000–US$40,000, depending on experience and expertise.

For successful applicants based in South Africa, compensation will be paid in South African Rand (ZAR).

The position offers a fully remote working arrangement, with travel required for in-person meetings and activities associated with the role.

For applicants based in South Africa, office space is available in Pretoria for those who prefer to work onsite.
