Location: Lilongwe

INTRODUCTION

The Central Medical Stores Trust (CMST) is responsible for Procurement, Warehousing, Sales and Distribution of adequate, affordable and approved and quality medicines and medical supplies to all public health facilities in Malawi.

CMST is seeking to recruit transformative and visionary persons to support it to effectively fulfil its mandate across its establishments in Mzuzu, Lilongwe and Blantyre as follows:

POSITION DETAILS

  • Job Title: Pharmacist
  • Job Grade: MS5
  • Location: Lilongwe
  • Responsible to: Pharmacist-in-Charge (MS4)
  • Responsible for: Pharmacy Technician (MS6)
  • No. of Positions: One (1)

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To assist in managing and coordinating pharmaceutical operations, inventory management and warehouse activities within the Trust.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supervising and monitoring warehouse operations to ensure efficient inventory management and order fulfilment.
  • Ensuring compliance with Good Warehousing and Distribution Practices and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintaining records relating to manufacturing certificates and quality control reports.
  • Supervising the recording and updating of stock movements in management information systems.
  • Verifying and approving inventory receipts and issues.
  • Liaising with the Finance Department regarding invoicing procedures.
  • Ensuring timely processing and dispatch of customer orders.
  • Coordinating stock counts, inventories and discrepancy reporting.
  • Advising management on stock status.
  • Coordinating transport arrangements with logistics service providers.
  • Managing warehouse equipment utilisation and maintenance.
  • Developing and implementing warehouse-related SOPs.
  • Training staff on approved SOPs and warehouse procedures.
  • Ensuring safe and efficient material-handling processes.

JOB AND PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from a recognised institution.
  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent.
  • Registration with the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority (PMRA).
  • Postgraduate training in Supply Chain Management or Logistics will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience in warehouse management, pharmaceutical supply chains or health commodities management.
  • Experience in using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
  • Exposure to health systems and logistics management will be an added advantage.

Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Ability to make sound decisions.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong report-writing skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Team player.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
