For summer semester 2027 start: 15 March 2026 For winter semester 2027/28 start: 15 September 2026 Funding Duration: Up to 24 months for master’s programs Up to 48 months for doctoral programs The DAAD Hilde Domin Scholarship aims to support students and doctoral candidates worldwide who face risks of being denied educational or other rights in their home countries.
The scholarship offers a unique opportunity to pursue or complete a study or research degree at a German higher education institution, with the goal of contributing to societal development upon completion.
Eligibility and Requirements
The DAAD Hilde Domin Scholarship serves to support students and doctoral candidates from across the globe who are at risk of being formally or de facto denied educational or other rights in their country of origin.
Open to applicants from all countries, excluding EU/EEA/EFTA countries, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and the United Kingdom.
Candidates must demonstrate a threat to their safety or personal well-being due to ethnic, sexual, gender, religious identity, or political/civic engagement.
Applicants must be aiming for a master’s degree or doctoral research in Germany.
Applicants should have sufficient German or English language skills (level B2) by the time of nomination.
Fields excluding human medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, and law. Candidates must hold educational certificates enabling entry into higher education in Germany.
Candidates should not be residing in Germany or the EU at the time of nomination.
Benefits Beneficiaries will participate in interdisciplinary training and benefit from a supportive academic environment in Germany.
Here are the full benefits:
Full scholarship covering living expenses, health, accident, and liability insurance. Monthly stipend of €1,300 (€992 for master’s students, €1,400 for doctoral candidates). Travel costs covered. Participation in preparatory language courses if applicable.
Additional financial benefits may include accommodation assistance and integration support.
Nomination and Application Process
Nominations must be submitted by eligible institutions or organizations in Germany involved in science, research, or human rights. Nomination forms are submitted online, including a risk assessment for the candidate. Applicants will be shortlisted based on academic performance and risk assessment. Final selection is carried out by an independent committee. Multiple nominations are allowed per institution, but only one nomination per candidate.
