POSITION: INDUSTRIAL GENERAL FITTER
Location: Blantyre
OVERVIEW HMS Foods and Grains Limited is actively hiring INDUSTRIAL GENERAL FITTER at its head office- Chigumula- Blantyre
Key Responsibilities Assembly & Installation: Assembling metal parts, tools, and heavy machinery, ensuring proper fit and alignment according to technical drawings. Maintenance & Repair: Performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing malfunctions, and replacing defective components to minimize downtime. Fabrication & Machining: Using hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, and drilling equipment to shape or alter metal components. Quality Control: Testing installed or repaired equipment to verify performance standards and ensuring all parts meet specifications. Safety Compliance: Adhering to strict safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean work area.
Required Skills and Qualifications Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in reading blueprints, technical schematics, and engineering drawings. Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of machinery, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems. Tool Proficiency: Experience with hand tools, power tools, and metalworking equipment (e.g., lathes, grinders). Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and stand for long periods. Education/Certification: Typically requires a Trade Certificate, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or completion of an Industrial Fitting Apprenticeship.
Work Environment Industrial fitters work in high-noise environments like factories, mines, and workshops. The job may involve working at heights, in confined spaces, and occasionally with hazardous materials. Full-time, shift work, and overtime are common in this role.
