The Role Oceana is seeking an experienced and strategic Development Director to lead fundraising and partnerships across Europe. Reporting to the Head of Executive Affairs, this is a pivotal leadership role responsible for securing the financial sustainability of Oceana’s work and enabling large-scale conservation impact. The successful candidate will design and implement the European fundraising strategy, collaborate with international stakeholders, and lead a small high-performing team in delivering ambitious growth objectives. Key Responsibilities Lead and deliver the European fundraising strategy aligned with organisational priorities Secure funding from foundations, institutions, major donors, and strategic partners Build and strengthen long-term donor and stakeholder relationships Oversee high-quality proposals, reporting, and full grant lifecycle management Drive performance against fundraising targets and support long-term sustainability Ensure compliance, accurate reporting, and effective risk management Provide strategic insights to senior leadership and support organisational impact Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing development team. Compensation The salary range for this role is €80,000–€90,000. The actual offer will depend on the candidate’s location, qualifications, relevant experience, and internal pay equity. Candidate Profile Over 10 years’ experience in fundraising/development within international non-profits Proven track record of securing funding and managing donor relationships Strong strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills Experience working within governance and donor compliance frameworks Highly organised, proactive, and capable of operating autonomously Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities Fluent in English; additional European languages are an advantage
