Hosted by Emerging Climate Frontiers (ECF), ACIFER is a flagship fellowship programme designed to strengthen African leadership in Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) and Solar Radiation Modification (SRM) research.

As climate risks continue to intensify across the continent, Africa’s participation in global climate intervention discussions has become increasingly important.

The fellowship seeks to empower a new generation of African researchers with the knowledge, skills, and networks required to contribute evidence-based research, policy insights, and region-specific perspectives to emerging climate intervention conversations.

Fellowship Overview
ACIFER 2026 is a fully funded virtual fellowship that will bring together early-career African researchers, Master’s students, PhD candidates, professionals, and innovators interested in advancing climate intervention research.

In its previous edition, the programme selected 60 fellows from more than 45 African countries from a pool of over 400 applicants, creating a vibrant community of emerging climate leaders.

The fellowship combines technical learning, mentorship, policy engagement, and collaborative research opportunities to strengthen Africa’s voice in global climate science and innovation.
