Exposed Wildlife Conservancy (EWC) is seeking a highly motivated Research & Stewardship Coordinator to lead its Community Trail Camera Program while supporting applied environmental research focused on wildlife coexistence, land-use transition, ecological recovery, and community resilience.

Job Title: Research & Stewardship Coordinator
Location: Remote (Applicants must be based in Canada)
Research Location: West-Central Alberta, Canada
Closing Date: 31 July 2026
Contract: 10-Month Contract (Potential Permanent Full-Time Opportunity)
Start Date: 1 September 2026 (Flexible)
Salary: CAD$25 Per Hour
Working Hours: Full-Time – 35 Hours Per Week
This position forms part of an innovative project centered in West-Central Alberta, including a closed mine site, where research will focus on understanding how wildlife returns to recovering industrial landscapes and how communities can respond through stewardship planning and nature-based economic development opportunities.
The successful candidate will contribute to building scalable frameworks that help rural communities balance conservation goals, ecological integrity, and economic sustainability.

Project Focus Areas
The research project combines several interdisciplinary focus areas, including:

Wildlife monitoring and trail camera research
Wildlife coexistence strategy development
Post-closure land-use planning research
Tourism and economic development analysis in post-industrial communities
Ecological recovery studies following mine closure
Community transition and resilience research
The findings will help shape practical long-term frameworks for wildlife stewardship and sustainable land management in recovering landscapes.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
Research & Project Management
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Lead project management activities for EWC’s Community Trail Camera Program
Review existing wildlife monitoring and trail camera research programs
Conduct literature reviews on wildlife monitoring and coexistence strategies
Identify best practices in stewardship programs for recovering industrial landscapes
Compile case studies to support program development initiatives
Post-Closure Landscape & Wildlife Research
Responsibilities include:

Supporting research on wildlife use of recovering industrial and reclaimed lands
Identifying how trail camera monitoring can improve coexistence strategies.
Translating ecological research findings into community-focused stewardship insights
Supporting development of practical conservation recommendations
Land-Use, Tourism & Community Transition Research
The role includes:

Researching tourism and land-use models relevant to resource-based communities
Developing feasibility studies examining wildlife, tourism, and land-use relationships
Conducting economic impact analysis of wildlife and nature-based tourism opportunities
Evaluating community adaptation strategies following mine closure
Reporting & Communication
The candidate will:

Prepare briefing notes and summary research reports
Organize research findings into structured reports, tables, and visual summaries
Support internal presentations and project communication activities
Assist with iterative project development and documentation.

Salary and Benefits
Successful applicants will receive:

Competitive salary of CAD$25 per hour

This position is funded through Clean Foundation and applicants must meet all of the following conditions:
Must be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment
Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected Person
Must not currently be enrolled in school or any academic program
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must meet all relevant provincial or territorial employment regulations
