The Sir Harry Evans Global Fellowship offers an exceptional opportunity for an early-career journalist to undertake a high-impact investigative journalism project in partnership with Reuters and Durham University.

The nine-month fellowship provides selected candidates with the opportunity to work inside a Reuters newsroom while receiving mentorship from experienced Reuters investigative editors and access to Durham University’s academic and research resources.

The programme is designed to strengthen rigorous, fact-based reporting and investigative journalism skills.

The Fellow will be based in one of Reuters’ global newsrooms located in London, New York, Sydney, or Toronto. Additional academic support will be provided through Durham University’s Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS).

The successful Fellow will also present a public seminar at the IAS, sharing insights and learnings gained throughout the fellowship.

The inaugural Sir Harry Evans Fellow, Waylon Cunningham, was part of a Reuters investigative team that won the 2024 Pulitzer Prize in National Reporting.

Fellowship Benefits

The fellowship package includes:

Monthly salary of approximately £4,444
Equivalent annual pro-rata salary of approximately £53,333
Monthly living stipend of £1,250

Fellowship Location and Placement
The Fellowship Committee will determine the final placement city for the successful candidate. Fellows may be assigned to Reuters newsrooms in:

London
New York
Sydney
Toronto
Successful candidates must meet all relevant immigration and visa requirements for their assigned location.

The fellowship is not remote, and selected candidates will be required to relocate for the duration of the programme.

Fellowship Duration
The fellowship will run from February to October 2027.

The Fellow is expected to spend part of October at Durham University as part of the Michaelmas cohort of the Institute of Advanced Studies.

Relevant qualifications and experience details
Applicants submitting video or broadcast journalism work must also include written research work and scripted narratives for at least two submissions.
