About the JUST Stories Initiative
JUST Stories is a global storytelling project designed to showcase practical examples of people-centred climate action and decarbonisation.
The initiative documents how workers, communities, businesses, governments, and investors collaborate to deliver effective and sustainable transition outcomes.
Phase II of the programme (2026–2028) will focus on producing immersive stories that provide actionable lessons for decision-makers involved in industrial transition, energy transformation, agricultural decarbonisation, infrastructure development, and climate governance.
These stories serve as evidence-based resources that help practitioners understand how successful transitions are designed, implemented, financed, and governed.
Key Responsibilities
Research and Case Study Development
Conduct extensive research on decarbonisation across multiple sectors.
Identify promising examples of people-centred climate transitions globally.
Develop analytical frameworks for assessing effective and equitable decarbonisation processes.
Build and manage a long-list of potential case studies.
Fieldwork and Primary Research
Design and conduct interviews with workers, communities, executives, investors, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
Undertake international field visits to selected project locations.
Gather primary data and contextual insights through participatory engagement.
Ensure all research follows high ethical, safeguarding, and consent standards.
Narrative Development
Produce publication-quality long-form stories.
Translate complex climate and governance issues into compelling and accessible narratives.
Develop fact sheets, visual content, social media materials, and supporting multimedia outputs.
Lead fact-checking and validation processes with story participants.
Coordinate editorial reviews and revisions with internal stakeholders.
Business Lesson Distillation
Extract practical business insights from each story.
Highlight governance decisions, stakeholder engagement approaches, commercial trade-offs, and enabling conditions.
Provide evidence-based lessons that can inform investment and corporate decision-making.
Strategic Collaboration
Contribute to masterclass content development.
Support annual practitioner forums and learning initiatives.
Participate in the development of cross-story analysis and synthesis products.
Help strengthen IHRB’s broader knowledge base on just transitions and climate governance.
Location and Working Arrangements
This position is fully remote and open to candidates globally.
To ensure effective collaboration, applicants must work within time zones aligned with or west of Central European Time (CET), allowing substantial overlap with colleagues across Europe, Africa, and North America.
Applicants must:
Have legal authorisation to work in their country of residence.
Manage their own taxes and legal obligations.
Provide their own laptop and internet connection.
Be willing to travel internationally up to three times annually.
Hold a valid driver’s licence and appropriate insurance.
Compensation and Contract Details
Consultancy Fee: GBP £4,250 per month
Contract Duration: From agreed start date until 29 June 2028
Working Schedule: Full-time, five days per week
Notice Period: One month
Contract Type: Consultancy Agreement under UK law
Reference Requirement: Two satisfactory references required before appointment

Required Qualifications and Experience
At least 7 years of experience in journalism, research, long-form writing, or narrative reporting.
Demonstrated expertise in decarbonisation, climate transition, or just transition issues.
Strong understanding of energy transition, industrial decarbonisation, agricultural emissions reduction, and climate governance.
Knowledge of business and human rights frameworks, transition finance, and stakeholder engagement.
Proven ability to conduct field-based research and qualitative analysis.
Exceptional storytelling and analytical writing skills.
Experience working in politically and socially sensitive environments.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates may have:
Experience working with trade unions, worker organisations, or community groups.
