The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO has officially opened applications for the 2026 IOC Ocean Traineeships Programme.
Job Title: IOC Ocean Traineeship Programme 2026
Job Location: Multiple International Locations (Argentina, Brazil, India, Spain, Nigeria, China, Indonesia, and Fiji)
Closing Date: 05 July 2026 (23:59 CEST)
Contract Type: 3-Month Traineeship (September–December 2026)
This prestigious international programme is designed for early career professionals working in ocean-related fields within government institutions.
The initiative provides participants with an opportunity to gain practical experience, strengthen technical skills, and contribute to the implementation of the IOC mandate through placements at leading ocean science institutions around the world.
Successful candidates will undertake a three-month traineeship between September and December 2026 at one of eight host institutions specializing in priority ocean science areas.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Be a citizen of an IOC Member State.
Be at the early stage of their professional career.
Be employed by a government institution.
Have confirmation that employment will continue for at least one year after completion of the traineeship.
Be actively engaged in activities supporting work plans adopted by IOC Regional Sub-Commissions and the broader IOC mandate.
Provide a supporting letter or endorsement from their institution or supervisor.
Submit an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV).
