The DAAD Helmut-Schmidt-Programme, known as Public Policy and Good Governance, supports future leaders from developing and emerging countries who want to promote democracy and social justice in their home regions. The programme, funded by the Federal Foreign Office, offers the opportunity to obtain a Master's degree in fields of study that are of particular importance for social, political and economic development in the countries of origin of these young professionals. In the light of the principles of Good Governance, highly qualified graduates are educated in political science, law, economics and administration and prepared for future leading positions in the Global South.
Available Master's programmes include: Social Protection (Bonn-Rhein-Sieg), Development and Governance (Duisburg-Essen), Public Policy (Willy Brandt School, Erfurt), Peace and Conflict Studies (Magdeburg), Management in Non-Profit Organisations (Osnabrück), Development Studies (Passau), and Governance and Public Policy (Passau).
The scholarship covers: monthly living stipend (€934), health, accident and personal liability insurance, travel allowance, and study-related costs.
Experience & Qualifications: Applicants must be a citizen of a developing country, hold a Bachelor's degree from a relevant academic field such as economics, political science, international relations/development, law or psychology. Above-average grades (upper third of graduating class) required. Malawi is an eligible developing country.
