Meet Mthandizi: From Finding Information to Taking Action
· Hyston Kayange
Ask about Malawi, discover opportunities, create with AI, and publish useful information. Meet the platform connecting everyday questions to practical next steps.

Finding information is useful. Being able to act on it is what makes the difference.
How do I access a public service? Where can I find job opportunities or tenders? What events are happening? What are the best places to visit in Malawi? Where can I find an organization offering the service I need?
Mthandizi started with questions like these: everyday questions that can mean searching across websites, social media posts, and forwarded messages. A scholarship notice in one group. A vacancy on another website. A useful contact buried in an old conversation.
We wanted to make useful information about Malawi easier to discover and understand.
But finding information is often only the first step.
A job opportunity leads to an application. Research leads to a report. A business idea leads to a proposal or a prototype. An organization's announcement leads to questions from the people it serves.
That is why we are bringing information discovery, AI tools, and organization publishing together in Mthandizi—to help people move from finding something useful to doing something with it.
Start with a question about Malawi
You do not need a complex project to find Mthandizi useful. You might want guidance on a public service, ideas for places to visit, or help finding an opportunity.
Ask about public services, tourism, jobs, scholarships, tenders, events, businesses, and organizations. You can also browse listings and explore the directory when you prefer to look through the available information yourself.
For example:
- "Where should I check the official requirements for renewing a driving licence in Malawi?"
- "What are the best places to visit in Malawi for a weekend trip?"
- "Help me look for IT job opportunities in Lilongwe."
- "What should I look for when reading a tender notice?"
- "Help me find information about upcoming events in Blantyre."
These are starting questions, not promises that every answer or listing is available. Public-service requirements, deadlines, and event details can change: use the relevant official source or organizer to confirm them before acting.
Then take the next step with Mthandizi Workspace
Once you have found something useful, the next question is often: what do I do with it?
You might need to understand application requirements, organize research notes, prepare a presentation, or work through a piece of code. Mthandizi Workspace adds AI tools for that next stage, bringing model access and practical tasks into the same platform as local discovery.
Relevance matters, too. Ask for an explanation using a Malawian farming example, a small business working in MWK, or a situation familiar to your community. Give the assistant the context you want it to work with, rather than settling for an example that feels distant from your life.
What is Mthandizi?
Mthandizi connects three kinds of work:
- Discover: ask about Malawi, browse opportunities and events, explore businesses and organizations, and find useful information.
- Create: use the AI workspace for writing, learning, coding assistance, document tasks, and image generation, subject to your plan and available credits.
- Publish and connect: give useful information a place people can discover, whether you are a business, an approved contributor, or a verified organization.
You do not have to be a developer—or even know much about AI—to start. Begin with a question or a task in your own words.
For students: understand the subject, then develop your own work
Use Mthandizi to unpack a difficult concept, build a study outline, or turn your notes into a clearer structure. Browse education opportunities, and use AI assistance to prepare material you can review and improve.
For example:
Explain machine learning to a first-year university student using examples from agriculture in Malawi. Then give me five questions to check my understanding.
You can also request a downloadable PowerPoint presentation for supported tasks. Tell the assistant your audience, slide count, and purpose to give it a useful starting point.
The value is help with learning and preparation—not a substitute for understanding the material, checking references, or following your institution's academic rules.
For developers and professionals: move beyond the blank page
A developer might ask for an application architecture, help understanding an error, or a review of a piece of code. A professional might need a report outline, an email, a proposal, or a presentation draft.
Try a specific request:
Outline a simple income-and-expense tracker for a small business in Malawi. Use MWK, explain the architecture, and generate one complete file at a time.
Breaking larger tasks into complete, reviewable parts makes the output easier to use. Generated code still needs testing, and important documents still need your judgment.
The workspace offers models according to your plan. Check the current plan list rather than assuming every account includes every model.
For creators and small businesses: turn an idea into a starting point
Need a visual for a campaign, an explanation of your services, or a first draft of promotional copy? Describe what you want to communicate, who it is for, and the tone you need.
Image generation is available through Tools → Create image on eligible paid workspace plans. It uses workspace credits; it is not an unlimited extra.
Businesses can also explore Mthandizi's directory and business tools to help people discover their services and products. Business features and workspace AI access have their own plan conditions—choose the tools that fit your actual work.
For organizations: publish information people can act on
Mthandizi is not only a place to ask AI questions. Verified organizations can publish official vacancies, scholarships, tenders, and notices.
The organization offering also extends to hiring workflows, approved-information AI assistance, and handling public questions and feedback. That means an institution can think beyond posting an announcement: how will someone find it, understand it, ask a question, and take the next step?
Explore Mthandizi for organizations to see the available services and request onboarding.
For people with useful local knowledge: contribute
Useful information becomes more valuable when other people can find it. Mthandizi also has a contributor path for submitting information for review. Contributions are subject to the platform's moderation and participation rules; submitting something does not guarantee publication or payment.
Start with one real task
You do not need to explore every feature today. Choose something you already need to do:
- Browse opportunities.
- Explore the business directory.
- Ask Mthandizi to help with a question or a piece of work.
- Compare workspace plans before choosing paid capacity.
Credit use varies with the model and task. AI can make mistakes, so check important facts, application requirements, generated files, and code before relying on them. Avoid sharing sensitive information you are not authorized to provide.
Try Mthandizi with a real task, then tell us what helped, what got in your way, and what you want us to improve. That feedback helps shape what we build next.
