Recourse is seeking an experienced Advisor to join its dynamic team focused on holding international financial institutions accountable and promoting sustainable, equitable energy systems globally.

This pivotal role, based in Africa—preferably in Kenya—offers the opportunity to influence international policies and advocate for just energy transitions within a flexible, remote work environment with occasional travel.

Position Overview The Advisor will play a crucial role in advancing Recourse’s strategic goals related to Just Transition, fair international financial architecture, and social rights.
The position involves policy advocacy, research, coalition-building, and communication efforts targeting international financial institutions, with a focus on Africa’s energy landscape.
This role demands regional expertise in Africa, particularly in energy systems, development finance, and political economy within the Global South.
The Advisor will work closely with global partners, contributing to campaigns and strategies aligned with Recourse’s 2025-2030 vision.
Responsibilities Support the delivery of Change Goal strategies (Just Transition, Fair Financial Architecture, Rights) and work plans within at least two CG Teams. Campaign for policy and practice changes in IFIs, influencing decision-makers, staff, and member governments. Produce high-quality advocacy, research, and communication materials. Build and maintain partnerships with civil society, alliances, and networks across the Global North and South. Organize events, meetings, panels, workshops, and facilitate engagement of Southern partners. Act as a spokesperson, contribute to digital campaigns, blogs, and speak at press conferences. Ensure campaign activities align with organizational goals and contribute to regular reporting for funders. Collaborate on funding opportunities to expand program impact.
Location and Application Process This position is preferably based in Kenya. Recourse operates as a virtual team, with all systems online, supporting remote working with occasional in-person meetings in Nairobi. Support for home-office setup costs is available.

Minimum 3 years of experience in advocacy or campaigning within environmental or human rights sectors. Degree in Law, Economics, Public Policy, International Relations, or related fields. Excellent research, writing, and policy analysis skills. Familiarity with international financial institutions and their environmental/social policies. Proven ability to work independently and within a remote, diverse team. Commitment to social and environmental justice, with awareness of gender and LGBT issues. Experience working with grassroots organizations and linking local issues to global policy change. Willingness to travel up to 4 weeks annually. Fluent in written and spoken English.
