POSITION: ENGINEER – DATA CENTER

Location: Blantyre

OVERVIEW The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited is incorporated under the Companies Act of Malawi. Its core business is to procure, transmit, and distribute electric power, as well as manage system market operations and the single buyer function in Malawi.

JOB OVERVIEW The Engineer – Data Center will be responsible for managing the data center facility and ensuring the reliability, performance, and safety of both physical and virtual infrastructure.

THE ROLE You will oversee power systems, hardware infrastructure, environmental conditions, and provide technical support within the data center environment.

Key Responsibilities • Monitor and troubleshoot dual power supply systems (grid and generator) • Inspect and maintain UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supplies) and PDUs (Power Distribution Units) • Act as first responder during power outages and transitions • Support clients with hardware setup and basic troubleshooting (“remote hands”) • Manage structured cabling (fiber and copper connections) • Ensure physical security of racks, cages, and access logs • Perform hardware maintenance (RAM, disks, network interfaces) • Monitor environmental conditions using DCIM tools (temperature, humidity, system loads) • Assist in provisioning and setup of new infrastructure for scaling

Qualifications and Experience • Bachelor’s Degree in: • Electrical Engineering • Telecommunications • Electronics • Information Management / ICT • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience • Registered with Malawi Engineering Institution (MEI)

Skills and Competencies • Strong knowledge of electrical systems (AC/DC, UPS, generators, power distribution) • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly • Strict adherence to safety procedures • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
